Dr. Karen Robert on "Labour, Violence and Justice in Cold War Argentina"
7:00 PM
BMH 101
Dr. Karen Robert will speak about "Driving Terror: Labour, Violence and Justice in Cold War Argentina" as part of the º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Public Lecture Series.
In 1976, twenty-four autoworkers at Ford Argentina’s plant outside Buenos Aires were brutally abducted, tortured, and ‘disappeared’ for their union activism. They miraculously survived their detention and pursued a decades-long struggle for truth and justice that culminated in a historic legal decision in 2018. This talk will share their remarkable story and use it as a window into global struggles for human rights and corporate accountability over the past forty years.
St. Thomas University’s 2024-25 Public Lecture Series is designed to enable º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ faculty researchers to be able to present ideas and research results to a wide and diverse audience on issues of broad public interest.
