Kamylle Bonenfant expanded her worldview and academic goals during her five-month international exchange at the University of Malta.
“My exchange showed me that the world is so much bigger than what I once knew, and that opportunities exist far beyond what we think is possible,” said Bonenfant, who is originally from Edmundston, New Brunswick.
“Learning to navigate a new country, a new system, and a new way of life pushed me far beyond my comfort zone and allowed me to discover a version of myself I had not yet met.”
The third-year Sustainability and Environmental Studies ߲ݴýdent has also discovered new ambitions—Bonenfant now plans to pursue a master's degree outside of New Brunswick and is looking forward to new challenges and possibilities.
“Before this experience, I never imagined leaving New Brunswick let alone Canada to study internationally. Now, that perspective has completely shifted,” she said.
“It gave me the space to step back and reflect on what truly matters to me.”
Through this experience, she developed greater confidence in her academic path and has chosen to transition into an honours program.
“I will soon begin my thesis journey, something that now feels exciting rather than overwhelming,” she said.
Beyond academics, Bonenfant built meaningful connections with students from around the world and embraced new experiences—from exploring Malta’s history to activities like surfing and scuba diving and even attending the Winter Olympics in Milan for the bronze medal hockey game.
“This has been one of the most life-changing and meaningful experiences of my life,” she said.
“The memories, the friendships, and the lessons I have gained are something I will carry with me forever.”
